The 1820 Col. Benjamin
Stephenson House is an important landmark that links
the early history of Edwardsville to the earliest
days of the Illinois Territory. Following its
restoration, the house was opened to the public in
2006 as a living history museum.
issues are recurring problems with all houses and,
unfortunately, Stephenson House is no exception.
Currently, the house is in need of a new roof. The
shake roof, installed in 2001, is failing because of
the mechanical fasteners holding the shingles are
corroding. The corrosion seems to be the result of a
