Summer Children’s Programs

Gather under the old shade tree to listen to stories of adventure from long ago or become a Pioneer of the Illinois Territory during the summer programs planned for children at Stephenson House. Two new programs are offered this season to give area children a taste of historic Illinois, Story time and the Pioneer Day Camp.

Pioneer Day Camp

The three day camp focuses on hands-on history activities for children grades 3rd through 5th. Two sessions are scheduled each day, the first in the morning from 9 am to 12 pm and a second session in the afternoon from 1 pm – 4 pm. Participants sign up for either the morning or afternoon session. Each session features a variety of activities designed to give participants a taste of the past. The cost to participate in the three day camp is $35 per child and must be paid at registration. Pre-registration is required.

Summer Story Time Series

The summer Story time series begins July 26. Additional dates are August 30, September 27 and October 18.

Their minds are open to all sorts of possibilities and make-believe. Stephenson House wants to treat children and their families to an opportunity to enjoy the grounds of the house, learn about other times, and take a break from the modern world. This program is free to anyone wanting to listen to an old-time ‘yarn’. Parents are asked to accompany their children during each session. For more information about scheduled stories and tellers call 618-692-1818.
